As we don't have native beavers sometimes we have to take on the role ourselves. So currently we're supporting Mersey Rivers Trust as they 'beaver away' to create leaky dams to manage the river environment.
Installation of leaky dams
Work has commenced on the construction a series of leaky dams and extensive tree planting along the watercourse on land belonging to William Hammond Ltd. The work is intended to help with flood mitigation to communities downstream of the Brickworks.
Mersey Rivers Trust has drawn up the plans, sought the appropriate permissions and will carry out the construction.
The aim is for the work to be completed by late Spring 2021, though this is dependent on the weather and the availability of community volunteers.
The improved environment should help slow the flow of the stream and help the return of native flora and fauna to the area.
